2019 Subaru Forester vs. 2019 Subaru Outback – Best Edition Comparison

Авто

When you head into a Subaru dealership to check out the new 2019 offerings, the 2019 Subaru Forester and the 2019 Subaru Outback might look similar. If you’re not a car enthusiast, they may be mistaken for the same vehicle. Just looking at the difference in price though, one can easily see there must be some important differences. The Forester starts at nearly two thousand dollars cheaper than the Outback.

Under the Hood

The Forester can be considered a crossover SUV while the Outback is more of a wagon with an SUV feel. Both vehicles are equipped with a 2.5 four-cylinder engine with similar horsepower and torque. Both are equipped with similar technology features as well. There are indeed countless similarities, but the differences are also worth noting.
The Forester and Outback both have great engines for acceleration and everyday driving. They are also both capable of handling the bumpier terrain when off-road or driving on uneven back roads. Both cars also offer a comfortable ride on any terrain. The soft suspension of the Outback will keep any occupant at ease. The Forester does a great job of keeping engine and road noise to a minimum and the Outback performs just as well in this aspect.

Interior

The interior of both the Forester and Outback offer great room for all passengers. There is enough headspace for all individuals. Getting in and out of the Outback is a breeze, since the large doors open wide enough to accommodate easy entry. Both vehicles boast slim roof pillars, offering excellent visibility when driving, but the Outback takes the cake in this regard.
Carrying gear is not a problem in either of these vehicles. Both offer over 35 cubic feet of storage space in the rear cargo area, with that number expanding to just over 73 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded down. There are also various storage areas for small items throughout both vehicles.

Towing

The Forester is rated to tow about 1,500 pounds. The Outback is rated to tow about 2,700 pounds. The towing capacity for both vehicles is actually very impressive considering their size, but once again the Outback is the right choice here if you plan to tow often.

Technology

Both the Forester and Outback offer as standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. They also offer a safety program specific to Subaru called EyeSight. This system provides front collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and a lane departure warning. The Outback is further equipped with blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking assist sensors. The Forester does have the option for some of these features, but it is not available on all trim options. In reviews, the technology and infotainment systems in both vehicles were highly rated.

Gas Mileage

With a similar price point, varying only by a small amount, these two vehicles are both worth the money. They both have so many similarities it could be very difficult to choose between the two. The gas mileage for both is another point that is quite similar. Both get about 25 miles per gallon in the city and about 32 miles per gallon on the highway.

Trim Options

Both vehicles would be a great choice for any individual looking for a reliable, worthwhile SUV. The price difference is not much and both offer great features even at the base trim. The choice between these two is a difficult one, with individuals really just having to consider personal preferences. Even more than just deciding between the two vehicles, there are various trim options available for each of the two. The Forester offers five different trim options, and the Outback has six trim options.

Should I Choose the Forester or the Outback?

There are many positive attributes for both the Forester and the Outback. Both come standard with the Subaru EyeSight safety system. They both have ample storage and cargo space. They are roomy and comfortable, while still offering the ability to handle off-road terrain.
The differences in these two vehicles are subtle. The Forester is more classic and standard, while the Outback is more modern and offers more technological assistance. The Outback is a bit longer than the Forester, but the Forester can be considered sportier. The safety features in the Outback pip the Forester at the post.
These are, of course, just personal preference points. Some individuals may enjoy the more advanced technology, like blind-spot detection, while other individuals may see this as an unnecessary expense. Having the choice between the two styles of vehicles is just wonderful for consumers, proving that Subaru really caters to all of its fans.
