The Umberto I Tunnel at dawn, Rome, Italy

Авто
I noticed the Umberto I tunnel on my way to what turned out to be the wrong hotel in Rome. It was night time and even at a distance it looked quite visually dynamic. So I made a mental note to get back there at night, to get a shot of the tunnel with the lights glowing. Day after day went by and I had almost forgotten about the Umberto I tunnel. There are so many incredible things to see and photograph in Rome that a tunnel seemed like a bit of a waste of time. However, on my last morning in Rome, I was out walking before sunrise and trying to get as many last minute shots as possible, when I just found myself right there in front of the tunnel that I had planned to shoot all along. Perhaps I should “plan” to shoot a safari in Kenya, the ice formations in Antarctica, the Pyramids and Temples in Egypt, and the volcano no one can pronounce in Iceland. Yes that should work just fine. My travel to wish list is getting to be quite extensive. So if you have some airline tickets that you want to get rid of or some cash you were thinking of throwing out because you have no room to store it, then I may be able to help you ;^)
While I’m not a very needy person on the road, I do have the expectation to actually stay at the hotel I booked, as opposed to the one the booking agent figured I meant. I booked my hotel in Rome on points and got a crazy good deal. It was the Hotel Nazionale that I was supposed to stay at and I had a letter confirming this. I also had an email from the booking agent confirming me at another B&B type place with a similar name, I only noticed this in the taxi. When I arrived at the Hotel Nazionale they had no record of me. So back into the taxi I went, and we arrived at the address on the email I had from the travel agent. Nothing wrong with the place, other than it had no heat, it took forever to get someone to open the door to the B&B for me while I waited in the rain, the phones didn’t work, and that I had barely enough room for me and my 2 bags in the lift. Perhaps it was even more disappointing after seeing the other 4 star place, where there was heat! In the end it all got sorted out and I returned to the original hotel. When I opened up my window I noticed that my room was perfectly located next to the Italian parliament buildings in the historic centre of Rome. The hotel was near the Roman Forum and Colosseum, and the staff was wonderful there.
So in the end, I guess you could say that there was a light at the end of the tunnel.
